A Non-Green Thumb.....

My mom died in June 2010. She was 89 years old and lived a full, good life. My sister and I were "prepared" because she'd had a difficult last four months.....but no matter how "prepared" you are, you are never ready to lose someone you loved.

At her visitation there were some lovely plants to bring color and life to our evening gathering full of hugs, tears and memories. As we began to leave the funeral home I talked to my sister and decided to take one of the peace lillies home with me so we loaded it in my car.

That was June 2010. This is April 2024 and in spite of the fact that I've never had any luck keeping indoor plants alive this lovely greenery just keeps greening along. I've re-potted it a couple times and water it about once every 10 days. I don't think it has the "energy" it did the first five years or so but today I noticed that there was a small bloom poking up from one corner.

These flowers don't show up often, but I always smile and think to myself "Hi Mom!" I know she'd be pleased.

A Familiar Search.....

This morning (Saturday) has been busy with lots of "little" things. I spent some time on the computer checking bills and started a load of wash. I put together the log for our latest RV trip which means printing out the daily details and adding the maps and brochures saved from each location...papers spread all over the dining room table. I finished loading the dishwasher and started it up. I got dressed and powdered my nose! I took the recycling down the hall to the trash room and finally was ready to go downstairs and return a book to our library.

Hmmmm.....one thing left to do: find my glasses. Since I take them off for close work I am always putting them down somewhere. So I looked in my bathroom and my bedside table....no. I looked on the computer desk....no. I checked the kitchen counter because they often "hide" on the dark countertop....no. I looked next to Dave's chair because I was sitting there with my morning coffee while checking email....no. I checked by the washing machine.....no. And then I repeated the whole route.

Our apartment is spacious but it isn't that big! Dave was down at the pool for water aerobics so he couldn't help me. Frustrated I went back into the bathroom to get my old extra pair of glasses and glanced into the mirror.

Lesson learned.....now I know where I should always look first. I think this may be another kind of "aging" joke.

It's Been A Minute.....

I haven't written in several weeks. We left April 1st in our little RV for a spring trip and I planned to add a few blogs while on the road. This trip, through KY, TN and into VA it just proved way too frustrating. Either we had no internet connection, or the site would not recognize my password on my IPad or something else was "wrong". I gave up.

Not that I have any earth-shattering thoughts to share, but I enjoy my little blog and now that we're home it feels good to be "back"!

:-)
